Dos and Don'ts of Family Photo Outfits

Do you ever wonder how people have such great looking fall and Christmas photos? Putting thought into each person’s outfit to make a cohesive look across the family is key! Here are my dos and don’ts of family photo outfits:

Don’t dress everyone in jeans and a solid color shirt.

Do vary the styles and colors of tops and bottoms.

Don’t be afraid of pattern or have everyone in a pattern.

Do have a balance of solids, large pattern, and small pattern.

Don’t pick mom’s outfit last.

Do prioritize choosing what you will wear to make sure you feel great for your photos.

Don’t perfectly match every color.

Do pick a color palate to draw from-I like to draw from the patterned piece or you can use one of the color palates on this post.

Don’t become a whole different family for family photos.

Do choose pieces that fit your family’s style.

Don’t forget to style each outfit with points of interest.

Do choose items with interesting details like a ruffle, piping, pattern, contrast, and accessories.

Don’t forget about shoes that go with the outfit.

Do make sure your boys have something other than roughed-up play tennis shoes like a simple sneaker or boot.

Don’t feel pressure to buy all new items unless you just want to.

Do shop your own closets or borrow a cute outfit from a friend.
